Spires Surface Decoration

This area of glass art involves the more traditional aspects of glass work, like etching & painting.

Etching is a general term used to describe the act of propelling very fine bits of material at high speed to mark a surface. In decorating glass, etching is a popular technique, with few substitutes. IThe abrasive is blasted at the glass lightly to turn the glass semi-opaque. This ‘whiting’ or ‘snowing’ of the glass can be used to great effect to produce words or images. Spires can custom design images to etch onto mirrors or glass panels, for example logos or graphics.

Mirrors can be also be etched from the back removing the reflective material, which then can be handpainted to create a design on the surface of the mirror.
